Mid-19th Century Exuberantly Carved Walnut Chair with Ruby Red Upholstery

An Exhibition-Quality carved chair Possibly by Mssrs Hunter of London An exuberant and striking example of mid-nineteenth century furniture craft, the single chair carved from solid Walnut, with hand-carved details throughout including stylised paw feet to the legs, a bejewelled apron below the seat and a shaped backrest with naturalistic details incorporating leopard heads at the apex. English, circa 1850 Dimensions: H: 37.5 in / 95 cm W: 20 in / 50 cm D: 21.5 in / 55 cm W., J. R. & E Hunter of Moorgate Street Established in London in 1804 by William Hunter, and subsequently joined by his sons John Ridley and Edward, the cabinetmakers and upholsterers business steadily grew, and participated in the Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851, where they exhibited a carved sideboard, cellaret, and two armchairs made from English Walnut.
