Minimalist Dining Chair in Solid Ash by James Torble, Loose Fit Furniture, UK
About the Item
Minimalist Dining Chair. Created by Loose Fit and handmade to order in the UK. Available in a choice of three timbers - English Oak, Ash or London Plane.
Simple and delicate in appearance, yet comfortable and durable enough for everyday use.
Understated and elegant wooden dining chair featuring the subtle use of hand cut dovetail and bridle joints to form the simplicity and rigidity of the frame. They have a solid wood seat which shows off the prime timber of their construction.
The design has a modern, square frame which creates clean lines and makes them lightweight even though they are made from solid timber.
The chair is finished in a hard wax oil, which gives it a satin sheen and brings out the grain of the wood.
Chair available in three types of timber - solid Oak, olive Ash or London Plane. Choose oak for a classic warm colour, olive ash for a lighter wood with the character of an older tree, or London plane for figured wood with rich colouring.
Please get in touch for custom sizes, different timber and finishing options.
About James Torble and Loose Fit Furniture:
Loose Fit furniture is lovingly designed and crafted in James’ workshop in East Sussex. James is a maker fascinated by his craft and the possibilities of what can be created in British wood.
James designs and makes furniture to be fun to live with, while being sensitive to the demands of natural timber. He takes design inspiration from a wide range of sources, from English pub furniture to Aztec friezes. All Loose Fit furniture is joined by hand using traditional techniques with thoughtful and playful details which accentuate the natural robust beauty of solid timber.
Each piece of furniture is made by hand, using locally sourced British hardwoods, such as unwanted trees that councils have cut down. The skills of traditional joinery are kept alive with playful designs, well considered details and a love of crafting wood.
James has a background in fine art, having studied at Central Saint Martins College, London, before building himself a houseboat and developing a passion for furniture and design in the process.
Just as every tree is different, each piece of furniture will have subtle variations in the timber, with unique figuring and character.
Adhering to the values of good craft means that each product is designed with low waste, natural materials and is made to last a lifetime.
