Newly released design by Rittergut & Runnymede. Currently exhibiting at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden/Saxony (Dresden State Theatre). With Mond Zwölf Rittergut & Runnymede are presenting their vision of a reading chair 70 years after the release of The Reading Chair, a typical Danish mid-century design. Mond Zwölf combines a modern and sculptural design with a hint of playfulness with its winged armrest. This exhilarating design has gone through a two-year sculptural design process, leading to 12 (zwölf) versions to master this one-armed design. Like the work of a sculptor, the design was carved from solid pieces of wood to create the perfect balance between sculptural forms and sleek lines. The single armrest representing the waning and the waxing crescent of the moon (Mond) invites you to immerse yourself in a most inspiring book at the end of a well-lived day. The name Mond Zwölf is a nod to the furniture craftspeople of the past in Schönberg, the home of Rittergut & Runnymede, to a part of its history many decades ago that is reemerging through these contemporary yet timeless designs. Like all pieces of Rittergut & Runnymede design furniture, Mond Zwölf is a chair that demands presence, presence in the room it stands in and the presence of the people interacting with it. Like a great book, it makes you think and surprises you. This special edition has been crafted just south of Dresden, near Rabenau (Saxony/DE), the home of chairmaking in Saxony for over 400 years, which received a special mention in 1720 in the Atlas Augusteus Saxonicus. Each part of a chair has been created by one of the last remaining specialist chairmakers in Germany, sculpted from the same tree, using traditional chairbuilding techniques. This complex design can come to life only through the expertise of a specialist chairmaker.
