New Labi Chair by Alberto Vitelio
About the Item
New Labi chair by Alberto Vitelio, Chile, 2019. Nilufar edition. Wood, automotive paint. Measures: 67 x 37 x 100 cm, 26.3 x 4.5 x 39.4 in. Alberto Vitelio comes from several generations of blacksmiths. He grew up in Chile surrounded by fire and white-hot iron observing metalworking techniques. The New Labi chair bears signs of this life story, as the name Labi is derived from the word lava. What looks like glass is actually automotive paint, poured in several stages over pieces of burned wood and repeatedly branded with the metal waste left over from the welding process.
