About the Item

Not simply a chair but a functional work of art. Created, by Paolo Rossi, from discarded materials such as: plank wood, hammered iron, an aluminium advertising sign, and steel machine parts, this piece juxtaposes the ancient with the modern, the regal with the mundane and nature with artifice. This one-of-a-kind "Totem" chair functions as furniture, as art and conversation piece. It comes with a certificate of authenticity. Paolo Rossi is a sculptor specialised in wood carving. Born and raised in Vignale, a small medieval town in the hills of Piemonte, Rossi expresses the ever-present existence of the primordial in his artwork. Employing the simplest of materials, mostly recycled or, better yet, discarded by over-consumerism, Paolo's work explores form and their relationship to nature. His art is instinctive, and unadulterated by academic dogma. What emerges from his hands is the rhythm of the ancient, the tribal, where the totem reigns supreme in perfect harmony with the elements of nature. Paolo does not want to be labeled an artist; rather, as his works clearly demonstrate, he is a careful and scrupulous researcher, one who gives voice to buried societal instincts. His sculptures reveal a profoundly significant manifestation of an ancient, latent rage, in a flurry of forms and emotions, which we, as spectators, can nevertheless perceive through brief symbols that recall the evolution of rock art. And it is precisely these elementary symbols, in their simplicity, that introduce us to the fascinating, mysterious world that shines through like an echo of an ancient community to which we all ultimately belong. Throughout history, artists have sought to elicit their own unique vocabulary from their materials,. Paolo Rossi's favourite material is wood, which he uses to draw us into the primordial. His sculptures feature tribal symbols and characters, carved or created as "micro-mosaics," which evoke the authentic and primitive soul of artistic expression.

One-of-a-Kind Contemporary Aziza Easy Chair by Hugo França, Brazil 2017
By Hugo França
Located in Deerfield Beach, FL
This lounge chair is an unique piece in pequi wood made in Brazil in 2017, by contemporary designer Hugo França, famous for his sculptural furniture using reclaimed wood and preserving the organic forms of the tree. This piece was originally a canoe manufactured by the Pataxó indigenous people, in south of Bahia, Brazil. In the early 80s, Hugo França abandoned his previous career as an industrial engineer in São Paulo to be closer to nature, moving to Trancoso, Bahia. Witnessing from up-close the rampant destruction of the local Atlantic Forest greatly impacted him, motivating his current work as a designer. França reverences the very trees salvaged by him as his main inspiration; he works intuitively, allowing his creative process to be guided by each tree’s organic...
