Pair of rare Hallway Chairs Model No.403 by Finmar, designed by Alvar Aalto.
An early production of one of Aalto’s classic designs. A classic piece of Scandinavian modernism, the Hallway chair was originally made for the Paimio Sanitorium.
Featuring Bent black lacquered ply seating rests on the solid birch frame. The chairs bear the Finmar label to the undersides.
About the designer:
Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a pioneering Finnish architect and designer known for his organic approach to modernism. His work combined functionalism with a deep respect for natural forms, materials, and the human experience. Aalto's iconic designs, such as the Paimio Chair and the Savoy Vase, showcase his innovative use of wood and glass, reflecting the landscapes and cultural heritage of Finland.
His architectural works, including the Viipuri Library and Finlandia Hall, emphasize harmony with their surroundings, blending light, space, and material to create serene yet dynamic environments.
