Pair of Antique Swiss Black Forest Chairs w. Matching Tilt-Top Table, Late 1800s

About the Item

Stunning hand carved Black Forest hall set with marquetry inlay. These very well crafted pieces of Black Forest furniture are an incredible sight to see. The workmanship and the large amount of finest details make this set highly decorative and an absolute eye-catcher in any entry hall or conservatory. The chairs have the entire backs carved out of one piece and these backs still looks as stunning as they did 120 years ago. Just like the rest of this set, they may even look better now, because of the patina. These chairs were not necessarily made to sit on (although you can), but they were made as decorative objects, often to impress guests. And we are certain you can see why guests would be. Especially the stunning inlaid scenes in the ebonized cartouches in both the chairs and in the table reveal the quality and finesse of the Swiss craftsmen from the late 1800s. They paint a picture of what the wildlife in the Black Forest region looked like then. They don't make 'em like this anymore and not only because it would be very hard to find an artisan who has the skills. The time that it would take to create such quality in this day and age would make this set extremely expensive. Mind you, our fair price for this rare set even includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days. Chair height x width 36.5 x 18 inches. Table height x width x depth 29.5 x 31.5 x 23 inches. Height table unfold 41.7 inches.
