About the Item
A beautiful pair of late 18th century Gustavian side chairs, crafted in Sweden and strongly inspired by the French Louis XVI style. Gustav III drew much influence from Versailles, but the Scandinavian interpretation was less opulent and more understated. These chairs reflect that elegance — refined, classical lines in a lighter and subtler expression.
Each chair features carved details with a ribbon and floral garland on the crest rail, fluted legs, and a spindled back. The frames are finished in the typical Gustavian manner — painted in soft grey with gilded highlights — combining French-inspired design with Scandinavian restraint.
