A Rare Chair Made From A Yale Campus Elm Tree, Ca. 1888
About the Item
Made by Chamberlain Company, New Haven CT from an elm tree that fell on Yale's property. The chair was a gift from Yale when they had received a period pilgrim chair from the Trumbull house. Slat back with elaborately turned frame and double turned stretchers in front, plain doublestretchetrs on the sides and one at the back. The chair bears a brass plaque that reads "1888, Made from Yale Campus Elm"; Chamberlin & Co. New Haven, Ct.
Dimensions: 45 3/4" H, 17 1/2" seat height, 22 1/2" W and 19" D
Condition: There are scratches across the left side of cresting rail, darkened and worn rush, minor scratches. Good solid joinery, presents well. Please see photos for details of condition.
