Renaissance Savonarola chair in carved walnut restored and wax polished. Attributable : Fratelli Bonciani – Cascina. About: Savonarola chair The term derives from the chair on which the Savonarola used to sit was still kept in the convent of San Marco in Florence. The X-formed chair was copied from an ancient Roman form in almost every European country. Also known as a Savonarola, the chair is named for the Italian Renaissance religious zealot Girolamo Savonarola. Originally used as hall chairs, they were more for decoration than actual seating. Measures cm: H 87/48, W 68, D 50.
