About the Item

Sculptural Chair DOTTOD 001 – AI-Generated Homage to Enzo Mari’s Sedia 1, 1974. DOTTOD 001 is a sculptural, AI-generated chair composed of standardized timber cuts. Its form draws inspiration from Enzo Mari’s Sedia 1 (1974), reimagined through algorithmic processes and speculative design. The chair consists of four vertical wooden legs supporting a horizontal square seat; two additional angled elements support a crossbar, forming the backrest. The structure is intentionally simple and flat-packable, honoring Mari’s radical design ethos through a digital lens. This piece is part of “Icons’ Replicants”, a speculative design exhibition by DOTTOD — the Gallery of Cybernetic Interpretations, founded by Jana Tothill and Pietro Rustici. The collection features real-life furniture and objects created through AI visual interpretation of textual descriptions of 20th-century design icons by Enzo Mari, Frank Gehry, Alvar Aalto, and others. Using the official descriptions of these iconic objects as prompts, a machine learning model generated visual representations, which the designers then translated into functional, physical prototypes. The result is a critical and poetic re-reading of modern design history — questioning the boundaries between automation, authorship, and craft. DOTTOD is a speculative design studio based in Barcelona. It was founded by Pietro Rustici, a computer scientist with a background in robotics and design, and Jana Tothill-Calvo, a product designer. After graduating from Delft University of Technology and the University of the Arts London, respectively, they completed the Master in Design for Emergent Futures at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and ELISAVA Barcelona. Their work explores technology critically through design, spanning AI research, conceptual furniture, and multimedia installations. DOTTOD bridges computational experimentation with material culture, crafting speculative objects that reflect on the aesthetics and implications of emerging technologies.

Ode chair by Sizar Alexis Signed and Numered Edition of 12 Dimensions: Length 45 x width 55 x height 74 cm Materials: Burned pine wood The hexagon has more to it than we think, and some of the aspects of this shape are still mysterious. The series is an ode to the aesthetics that I fell in love with in a geometrical sculptural works of art and the interesting perfect form of the historical hexagon. It's fascinating how hexagons are part of our life but fail to realize this. It all comes down to the element that is present throughout our body, and that is carbon. The use of the form dates back to ancient mesopotamia...
