About the Item

An exceptional and rare set of five French bobbin turned chairs dating from the 1940s–1950s, crafted in solid oak with vibrant multicolored straw seats. Inspired by the distinctive design language of Charles Dudouyt, these chairs are a celebration of sculptural form and artisanal craftsmanship. The set includes a pair of armchairs with generously curved armrests and three matching chairs. Each piece features beautifully turned “bobbin” legs and stretchers, the handwoven seats are composed of richly dyed straw in warm, earthy tones—greens, reds, ochres—creating a striking contrast with the warm oak grain. Adult-sized, with a seat height of 43 cm (approx. 17 inches), these chairs are perfectly suited for dining or accent seating. Their proportions are generous without being bulky, and the craftsmanship is evident in every detail, from the precise turning to the tight, colorful weaving. Overall, the set is in very good vintage condition with light, age-appropriate wear. These chairs are particularly rare in that all four legs are turned. They can be sold as a complete set or individually upon request, making them a versatile choice for collectors or interior designers looking for unique, period-authentic seating with character. One stretcher shows old woodworm holes that have been treated. Dimensions : -chairs : L45 P37 H87cm -armchairs : L62 P48 H87cm
