Set of four Napoleon III ebonized salon chairs with balloon-back, cabriole legs, upholstered back and seat. France, circa 1870. Beautifully restored frames with original ebonized wood. Springs have been re-tied in the process of re-upholstery. Very comfortable with good lumbar support. Wonderful as dining chairs or around a game table.     Reupholstered. Refinished. Repaired: All loose joints have been cleaned, re-glued and clamped Chairs were re-upholstered in a neutral linen fabric, 8 way hand tied spring construction. Fabric in showroom sample condition, not perfect but usable Seats are very comfortable. Wear consistent with age and use. Chairs were covered with a linen fabric for display purposes. Chairs are of the period and are in very good mechanical condition. Upholstery involved replacing the jute strapping, re-sewing the springs to jute and 8 way hand tying springs.

An exquisite pair of very finely carved Rococo-style chairs in mahogany with elaborate rocaille embellishments throughout. The high quality and well articulated carving suggest that they are NY made and can be attributed to or were influenced by the workshop of Charles Baudouine. Charles Baudouine (June 1, 1808 – January 13, 1895 was an American cabinetmaker and interior decorator, and was the patriarch of a major family in New York society in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in New York of Huguenot ancestry, Baudouine was first listed as a cabinetmaker in the New York City Directory of 1829-30, working at 508 Pearl Street.
