Simmis chair by La Cube Madrid, 2016 Materials: Iron, chesnut Dimensions: 90 x 45 x 45 cm The Simmis chair plays with its symmetry from different perspectives. On one hand, there is the symmetry between the wood parts, highlighted by a central incision, which is the key element of the aesthetics of chair. This incision, that divides the chair into two identical sides, provides lightness, balance and visual delicacy which is counteracted by the strength of the material and the cubic form of the lower part. On the other hand, there is the second symmetry, which corresponds to the inclination of the lower cube and the back of the chair. The profiles of these two elements make a symmetric figure between the higher and the lower part, which axis is the back. Stefano Fusani, Italian artist-designer and Clara Hernández, Spanish cultural and art historian, are the founders of La Cube, an experimental design studio focused on material and theoretical research that addresses the origin of production processes in relation with the human habits of the 21st century. The aim of the studio is to develop different kind of projects situated in the floating and ambiguous space between art and design, analyzing the material culture and making experimental projects with objects, installations and texts aimed to research the relation between those disciplines in current contexts and the cultural constructions with them associated.
