About the Item

Twig Loveseat , Patinated Recycled Cast Aluminum, 100% Wool Mohair Upholstery, Jordan Mozer (b.1958). Made in Chicago, USA 1997/2015. This is a 2015 variation on the original 1997 design. Provenance: collection of the artist. Signature cast into metal. Part of the Twig collection of seating, lighting, tables and accessories. The chair is 35” high x 26 ”deep x 52 ” wide x seat height of 18" (89 cm high x 66 cm deep x 132 cm wide x seat height of 45.7cm). PROCESS + MATERIALS The exoskeleton of the chair was hand-carved in maple, and then cast in 93% recycled magnesium-aluminum alloy. The frame was then burnished and welded. It is upholstered in 100% wool mohair. The artist's signature is cast into the frame. THE STORY Originally designed for Nectar Restaurant by Mozer, this variation in the finish and mohair upholstery was created in 2015 for the artist's residence. Nectar Restaurant was inspired by pre-Columbian American architecture and art of the southwest, a design commissioned by Steve Wynn for the opening of the Bellagio Resort Hotel in Las Vegas in 1997. The design explored branching twig motif inspired by pre-Columbian Southwestern architectural framing in which beams are cradled by columns formed by a branching. This motif informs the chair frame and materials of the chair. It also inspired railings, carpet motifs and the plaster interior architecture.
