About the Item

Jordan Mozer (b.1958), Twiggy Armchair, Cast Recycled Cast Aluminum, Patinated, Leather Upholstery, Made in Chicago, USA 1997/2015. This is a 2015 variation on the original 1997 design. Provenance: collection of the artist. Signed. The chair is 35” high x 25 ½”deep x 25” wide (89cm high x65 cm deep x 63.5 cm wide). PROCESS + MATERIALS The exoskeleton of the chair was hand-carved in maple, and then cast in 93% recycled magnesium-aluminum alloy. The frame was then welded, hand-polished and then hand rubbed with acid to patina. It is upholstered in leather. The artist's signature is cast into the frame. THE STORY This variation in the finish and the leather upholstery was created in 2015 for the artist's residence. The Twiggy armchair is a 2015 variations of a design created for Nectar Restaurant at Bellagio Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1997.1997/2015 Nectar Restaurant was a walk-in fantasy inspired by indigenous pre-Columbian southwestern architecture and design, an American restaurant design commissioned by Steve Wynn for the opening of the Bellagio Resort Hotel in Las Vegas in 1997. The design explored branching twig motif inspired by pre-Columbian Southwestern architectural framing in which beams are cradled by columns formed by a branching. This motif informs the chair frame and materials of the chair. It also inspired railings, carpet motifs and the plaster interior architecture.
