Two Similar 18th Century Swedish Gustavian Chairs

About the Item

Two similar Swedish Gustavian chairs made in Stockholm. One chair by Johan Erik Hollander (1748-1813) and signed IEH. The other chair by John Hammarstrom (active 1794-1812) and signed IHS. One chair still retains its original Stockholm chair maker's paper seal. Featuring curved backrests framed with hand-turned spindles over base fleurons. Frame consists of corner fleurons atop turned, tapered and fluted legs with over-collaring decorated with egg-shaped godrons. Supported by turned H-cross construction. Meticulously scraped to their original light grey paint and original slip seats reupholstered in linen.
