About the Item

Unique arch square stool by Mesut Öztürk. Dimensions:  W 20 x D 20 x  H 40 cm. Materials: stoneware. "Arch stools are sculptural furnitures derived from the series Revak which is an attempt to create poetic architectural structures composed of arches. While the projected function is stool they can be used as side tables or pedestals. They are made of stoneware clay fired at high temperatures. As hand made design objects, Arch Stools can be produced unlimited upon commissions unlike the one-of-a-kind pieces of the Revak series. Each edition of a design may differ slightly from each other because of the imperfection of the hand building process. Mesut Öztürk was born in Bulgaria in 1989 and he migrated to Turkey with his family in the same year. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Faculty of Architecture at Yeditepe University, Istanbul. Later on, he completed his Master’s Degree in “History, Theory, Criticism in Architecture” at Istanbul Bilgi University with a dissertation about informal settlements of Istanbul. After working as an architect for a while, he started to work as a part-time lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University. He conducted Architectural Design Studio, Architectural Drawing and Ceramics, Craft, Design courses. He quit his PhD program in Urban Planning and has started to work on ceramics. In his art practice, Öztürk aims to explore anonymous human creations which are the outputs of collective will and labor in human history that leads him to observe about human nature. These creations could be vernacular architecture, informal urban settlements or prehistoric pottery. The artist seeks poetical ways for translating the authentic features which he finds in these timeless phenomenons into a contemporary form language. He is currently based in Kadiköy, Istanbul, Turkey.".

Grace Prince Held Absence No.6 Low stool - UK, 2025 - AP 1, Edition of 4
Located in London, GB
Painted steam-bent wood. Almost animalian in its expression, this stool is crafted from steam-bent waste wood, rendering each in the edition unique. Below a curved split seat, two roughly-hewn legs are held in composition with a more conventional post. The piece is part of Held Absence, Grace Prince’s largest furniture collection to date addressing a long-held fascination with absence and fragility. The pieces develop the designer’s free, gestural approach into six assemblages in bronze, steel and wood. Designed exclusively for Béton Brut, the works emerged from a period spent living in a traditional house just north of Kyoto. The collection is handmade to order in 12 weeks. Grace Prince (born in London, 1992) is a multidisciplinary designer based between Zürich, Milan and London. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, she worked as the assistant designer to Vincenzo De Cotiis...
