Unique Modernist Bent Plywood Cane Chair by Leandre Poisson

About the Item

Modernist bent plywood chair with woven cane seat, designed by architect Leandre Poisson. The chair is comprised of curved plywood structures, joined by exposed hardware and finished with a woven cane seat. This example is one-of-a-kind, acquired alongside a suite of furniture envisioned for his futuristic dome house in New Hampshire. These furnishings embody his passion for innovative materials and embracing sustainability principles. Graduating from RISD in the late 1950s, Poisson honed his industrial design skills at NYC firms, most notably with Raymond Loewy. In the 1960s, the architect made a significant move to New Hampshire, redirecting his focus towards environmental design, which included a pioneering approach to solar architecture and gardening.
