About the Item

A so called hugging chair designed by Finish designer Werner West in the 1940s and manufactured by Wilhelm Schauman in the town Jyväskyle in the middle of Finland. The design of the back is heavily inspired by the Greek Klismos chairs. The frame is made of black painted wood. Most likely birch. The seat and back are covered with red faux leather. Maybe not original but for sure very early. Good vintage condition with normal ware consistent with age and use. The faux leather seat has a bit of ware and patina including a few shallow cracks to the upper part of the material. Not going all the way through the material so more of a beauty flaw than a real damage.
