Pair of Dapha Custom Club Chairs in “Orientalist” Persian Procession Upholstery, 20th Century A distinctive pair of custom-upholstered club chairs by Dapha, High Point, North Carolina, dating to the late 20th century. These generously scaled barrel-back chairs feature a bold and whimsical “Orientalist” upholstery pattern depicting a Persian imperial procession, complete with turbaned figures, horses, banners, and ceremonial regalia in tones of saffron, cornflower blue, chocolate brown, and ivory on a blush pink ground. Each chair is tailored with a deep tufted back, plush loose seat cushion, and a straight skirt finished with blue and white bullion fringe trim, lending an old-world theatrical flair. The dramatic, narrative fabric is reminiscent of 19th-century toile and printed panels made popular by European textile houses such as Oberkampf or Braquenié, but reinterpreted with modern vibrancy and American scale. The seat deck is labeled: DAPHA – “For those who know upholstery” – a mark of the firm's reputation for high-quality, craftsman-made upholstery furniture. Founded in High Point, NC, Dapha Limited specialized in bespoke seating and traditional styles, often with richly patterned or chintz-style fabrics.
