Incredible Gilt Bronze-Mounted Swan Neck Daybed in French Empire Style
About the Item
19th century French Empire daybed chaise lounge featuring carved swan neck ends.
The cushioned seat within padded ends of unequal height with gilded swan- necked facing boards over a panelled apron applied with cast poppies, hippocampi, and Apollo mask on four Sphinx-headed winged supports with paw feet.
This smart and opulent chaise is typical of Napoleon III design in its elaborate reinterpretation of earlier 19th century Empire styles, which in turn were derived from Ancient Greek and Roman models.Third quarter 19th century.
Upholstered in a cream fabric,,Nice original condition, minimal wear throughout, Extremely comfortable!
