Karl Erik Ekselius for Joc Vetlanda Convertible Sofa / Daybed, 1960s

About the Item

Find ultimate relaxation with this Scandinavian mid-century convertible sofa / daybed designed by Karl Erik Ekselius (Swedish, 1914-1998) for JOC Vetlanda Mobelfabrik, c. 1960's. This minimalist, versatile model offers an adjustable seat mechanism that smoothly transitions from a sofa for more formal social seating to a daybed for casual reclining. Simple, clean lines give this sofa a sleek modern silhouette, perfectly unobtrusive in a living space. With a sturdy, warm-toned beechwood frame and period upholstered cushions, this daybed is a prime candidate for reupholstery to your personal taste. After getting his start studying carpentry in Germany and later at Carl Malmsten’s School for Furniture Studies in Stockholm during the 1930's, Swedish furniture designer Karl Erik Ekselius worked for J. O. Carlsson in Vetlanda, eventually taking ownership of the company in 1961. A result of his fruitful relationship with JOC Vetlanda, this daybed is an exemplary model of why Ekselius gained international recognition for his Scandinavian modern designs.
