About the Item

An exceptional and exceptionally rare set of 10, circa 1735, English George II period, walnut dining chairs consisting of 2 armchairs and 8 side chairs, the upholstered 'waisted' or 'compassed' upholstered backs, the armchairs with out-scrolled arms, connecting to upholstered 'compass' shaped seats, on front shell-and-bellflower-carved cabriole legs with turned pad feet and splayed rear. Again, a truly remarkable and sturdy set with exquisite patina ready for use. Measurements given are for armchairs, side chairs measure 40" H x 22.5" W x 18" D. Literature: Bowett, Adam.     Wear consistent with age and use. Vintage cotton damask upholstery in good useable condition with minor flaws; two side chairs curiously lacking bellflower carving below shells on front legs as pictured, but are believed to be original to the set.
