Fine Set Of Six E.J. Victor Newport Collection Carved Dining Chairs
About the Item
An exceptional set of French Style dining chairs by noted maker E.J. Victor. The frames feature bold carving with stylized Acanthus Leaf motif, fluted and tapering legs, and fine French styling. The fabric is in a very fine Crewel Work type with Floral motif in understated and refined colors of Tan, Celadon, Cream and a Cherry Red. Included are two arm chairs and six side chairs. Very solid feeling and comfortable. E.J. Victor wood plaques attached.
Condition: Please see detail photos. There are a few minor signs of age and use including a few nicks and rubs to the frames being mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is particularly fine.

RENE PROU
(1889-1948)
A decorator as well as furniture designer, Rene Prou was born in Nantes and educated in Paris. He studied at the Ecole Bernard-Palissy in Paris and shortly thereafter joined the design house, Gouffé. By 1912 he had become their chief designer and was being called the first decorator of the modern taste (gout moderne).
His varied design career included:
