About the Item

A French set of eight carved-wood, shield-shaped back chairs from the mid-20th century. This vintage set of chairs, consisting of a pair of arm chairs and six side chairs, feature a elaborately carved wood frames and shield-shaped backs. The side chairs have fabulous pierced back-splats abundantly carved with acanthus leaf and scrolls and top rail embellished with carved shells and subtle splay of leaves at top. The armchairs have padded backs but are trimmed in the same beautiful carvings along their top rail and backsides as the side chairs, and arms terminate into leaf-wrapped carvings about their carved knuckles. These chairs are raised on four cabriole style legs with carved knees and lifted upon hooved feet. Legs are braced with a wavy x-shaped carved stretcher just above their feet. The older upholstery is ready to be refreshed, the perfect opportunity to make them perfect for you! This French set of eight shied-back chairs are ready to make an elegant statement about your dining room table.
