About the Item

Here we have a unique opportunity to acquire a genuine set of vintage italian artisan produced chairs in solid carved maple wood with oxalised steel legs in the style of Carlo Mollino's famous 1946 chair (please see image 3). These beautiful chairs are pure sculpture. The chairs come from the collection of prominent mid century roman engineer Giovanni Pasquali who worked in partnership with the famous italian architects Busiri Vici . Pasquali was also the engineer for many architectural projects in collaboration with other prominent italian architects of the mid 20th century such as Brasini, Marcotulli and Lanci. The chairs come with a signed certificate of authenticity and provenance and come directly from the Pasquali family residence in Via Chelini,Rome an exclusive area in the heart of Rome made famous by the " la dolce vita" movie. The family were unable to remember the exact year that these chairs were commissioned by Giovanni Pasquali but they do know it was definitely during the late 1950s to very early 1960s period and this is also confirmed on the signed certificate of authenicity and provenance. It clearly appears that Giovanni Pasqualli was a big fan of Carlo Mollino's work in Torino and must have had this set commissioned based on photographs of Mollino's famous 1946-47 chair which were published in Domus in 1948 and of which only one documented example exists. The chairs bear a very close resemblance and are faithful in overall basic design to Mollino's chair, the only significant difference being that the solid carved maple wood seats are slightly thicker and heavier in profile allowing them to be used every day without the risk of stress cracking etc. The legs and sprung steel backrest supports are made of raw tapered tubular steel finished with a very unusual oxalic acid anti corrosion finish, a finish that Mollino is also documented as having used on his 1947 chair published in Domus. A genuine Mollino set like this would set you back half a million so this is as close as most people are ever going to get, grab this stunning super vintage set with great provenance while you can, this really is a unique one off opportunity ,you can have a genuine vintage useable Mollino look with out the outlay and worry of looking after an original.
