About the Item
A rare and powerful design statement from the heart of Dutch postmodernism. These sculptural chairs were designed by architect Kees Doornenbal exclusively for the offices of ARTIS — Amsterdam’s Royal Zoo — and were never commercially produced.
Each chair is constructed from laminated bamboo, with bold geometric lines and a striking play of form and void. The triangular cut-out in the backrest, the pronounced angles of the seat, and the overall visual rhythm give the design a monumental, architectural presence.
Only 20 of these chairs were ever made, making this set of four an exceptional opportunity to acquire a piece of unique Dutch design heritage — ideal for a curated interior, art space, collector’s setting or statement dining area.
