Guglielmo Pecorini, pair of dining chairs, walnut, leather, brass, Italy, circa 1940
These wonderfully sculpted chairs are designed by Italian designer Guglielmo Pecorini The sincere construction and type of upholstery, give the chair a character of its own. Worthy of attention are the fluent lines of the walnut frame that add to the essence of the design. The straps of the leather are attached to the frame with brass nails, a trait that contributes to the chair's sturdy appearance. Guglielmo Pecorini
Guglielmo Pecorini, known for carved wood accessories shaped like fruit or nuts as well as furniture designs, was highly regarded in his day, and his small body of artisanal work turns up at major auctions such as Wright today. He is pictured at work in his small atelier in Italy at Work (1955) and his chairs are shown along with Craft productions by peers such as Carlo Mollino, Fontana Arte, Azucena, Cesare Lacca and casa e Giardino.
