Rare Jean-Michel Wilmotte ‘Grand Louvre’ Set of Six Dining Chairs in Wenge

About the Item

Jean-Michel Wilmotte for Tecno, set of six dining chairs model ‘Grand Louvre’, wenge, leather, Italy, circa 1989 These extremely rare dining chairs are designed by the renowned French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte and commissioned by the Parisian museum the Grand Louvre. The Frenchman prefers to be involved with projects that focus on cultural and museo-graphic spaces in order to enhance the existing heritage. Wilmotte’s first partnership with Tecno took place inside the exhibition halls of the Louvre and designed the Todo Modo system. From that time, the collaboration has continued resulting in these magnificent chairs for the Rizhelien wing of the Louvre that functioned as public seating. Wilmotte paid close attention to the object’s composition, choice of materials and finishes while creating the pieces for the wing. This chair is executed in an exceptional wood species named wenge that consists of a chic light reddish brown color with notable grains. The design convinces visually through the stabile construction formed by clean lines and sharp edges. The backrest and seating area are upholstered in black leather to provide comfort for the sitter. The armrests are detailed with two cylindrical wooden slats attached to a metal plate that shows admirable patina. Each chair has a manufacturer label stating ‘Tecno, Wilmotte Pour Le Louvre’. Taking everything into account, these chairs have a strong solid composition and hits the border between art and furniture. Please note that these items are in good, used condition. The leather seats of two chairs contain dents and scratches. Restoration can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.

Vico Magistretti Set of Six ‘Carimate’ Dining Chairs in Straw
By Vico Magistretti
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Vico Magistretti, set of six dining chairs model ‘Carimate’, stained beech, rush, Italy, designed circa 1960 The ‘Carimate’ chair is one of Vico Magistretti’s most famous chairs. Originally designed in a red color for the ‘Carimate Golf Club’ in Italy, a place that Magistretti himself designed. This specific model was produced for a long time and by four different manufacturers. Since Magistretti was very confident about the success of this model, he requested a patent for the construction and the joints in 1963. Due to the architectural, open frame the ‘Carimate’ chair has a strong expression. The angular frame has two curved armrests that add a dynamic appeal. Where the frame...
