Rare Set of 12 Distressed Paint Decorated Maison Jansen Dining Chairs Circa 1920

About the Item

This is a spectacular and rare set of 12 signed Maison Jansen dining chairs in their original finish including the age related distressing that only time cane provide. The chairs are completely reupholstered and in new upholstery. The frames are carved and extremely elegant examples of the Directoire style. Measures 37 inches tall x 19.5 inches wide x 20.5 deep and seat heighty is 19 inches. Dates to the 1920s.

Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. This House was located at 23, rue de l'Annonciation, Paris, and closed in 1989. Throughout the firm's history, it employed a traditional style drawing upon European design, but influence of contemporary trends including the Vienna Secession, Modernism, and Art Deco has also appeared in Jansen interiors and in much of the custom furniture the firm produced between 1920 and 1950.
