About the Item

Dining Table available and sold separately. The FMV restoration team chose this tasty plum fabric and the results were even more delicious than we expected. Or if you prefer wine analogies, it resembles a Petite Sirah. The soft, woven tweed is a blend of lavender, violet, plum and black current. Dark enough for high traffic use, but colorful enough to be fun and expressive. The contrast of the fabric against the rich, reddish-amber teak frames is almost mesmerizing. This set just hit the floor and the rubbernecking is obvious. The sculpted, slender and almost sinister solid teak frames have aged beautifully with rich patina. The wood has patches of heavy grain that looks almost like rosewood. As if this all wasn't sexy enough, the four button tufts on each back add a layer of tailored sophistication to an otherwise disciplined form. Sold as a set of (6). All chairs have been reupholstered with new foam and fabric. Frames have been tightened and fully detailed top to bottom. Only minor imperfections remain on the frames (see pics). We're not sure who designed these chairs for Vamdrup Stolefabrik, but we tip our hat. Dimensions: 20” Wide x 23.5” Deep x 33.75” High (18” seat height)

8 Kai Kristiansen Mid-Century Modern Model 31 Danish Teak Dining Chairs
By Kai Kristiansen, Schou Andersen Møbelfabrik
Located in Chattanooga, TN
A masterful embodiment of Danish Modern elegance, this complete set of eight Model 31 dining chairs by Kai Kristiansen (crafted for Schou Andersen in the 1950s/60s) offers a rare blend of sculptural finesse, ergonomic grace, and historical pedigree. With their subtle A-frame profiles and gently curved upholstered backs, these chairs resonate with both architectural clarity and inviting comfort—echoing Kristiansen’s foundational training under the ergonomically intuitive language of Kaare Klint. Each chair boasts beautifully sculpted teak frames where the arm supports flow seamlessly into subtly splayed legs, achieving a delicate balance between strength and fluidity. The overall form is restrained but never austere, allowing the natural warmth of teak to come forward as the true focal point. Comfort is paramount: the chairs were engineered with ergonomics in mind, offering excellent back support and a seated posture suited for extended dining or conversation. Many of these Model 31 chairs have been sympathetically restored—featuring refinished frames and custom upholstery options in fabrics like wool, velvet, or leather—resulting in a harmonious marriage of vintage craftsmanship and contemporary refinement. Beyond design, this set carries cultural and collectible significance. Kristiansen was a prolific Danish designer whose work embodied clean lines, thoughtful ergonomics, and functional sculpture. His career, informed by his early apprenticeship and subsequent studies, fueled some of the most enduring forms in mid-century furniture design. Stunning set of eight Kai Kristiansen Danish Teak Chairs. The Model #31 chairs were designed by Kristiansen and produced by Schou Andersen. Each chair stands as a work of art, captivating the eye from every angle. The crescent shaped back and angled legs are similar to that of a compass chair… named so because it resembles the tool. The back legs flare inward slightly and are reminiscent of Kristiansen’s #42 chairs. These chairs have been updated with new taupe upholstery. These heirloom quality Danish chairs are sure to elevate your collection. Consider pairing these with one our Danish teak dining tables and credenzas (sold separate). 19.5” Wide x 18.5” Deep x 29.5” Height (17.5” seat height) Condition: New upholstery. Chair frames are original. There are some scratches on some of the legs and arm spanners. About Kai Kristiansen: Danish furniture designer best known for his smooth and geometric Mid-Century Modern cabinets, tables, and dining chairs. Working in oak, teak, and rosewood, the designer produced popular, pioneering pieces including the FM Wall Unit...
