About the Item

This exceptional set of twelve Model 49 dining chairs by Erik Buch for O.D. Møbler, crafted in Denmark during the 1960s, includes ten side chairs and two captain’s chairs (armchairs), offering a cohesive blend of form and function. Constructed from solid teak with a natural finish, the chairs showcase the wood’s warm, golden-brown tones and fine grain, their sculptural frames exuding the organic elegance of Danish Modern design. The Model 49, designed in 1949, is an iconic piece known for its “floating seat” concept, where the seat appears to hover within the frame, providing both visual lightness and ergonomic comfort. The curved, canted backrests and meticulous joinery highlight Buch’s attention to detail, making these chairs a favorite among collectors and designers. Newly reupholstered in luxurious oxblood Italian leather, the rich, deep red hue adds a bold contrast to the teak, enhancing the set’s sophisticated appeal. Perfect for a grand dining space or a collector’s curated interior, this set embodies the timeless craftsmanship of mid-century Scandinavian design. Erik Buch (1923–1982), sometimes spelled Erik Buck, was a celebrated Danish designer born in Copenhagen, known for his contributions to the Danish Modern movement. Buch trained as a cabinetmaker before establishing himself as a designer, focusing on creating furniture that combined functionality with organic, sculptural forms. His Model 49 chair, introduced in 1949, became an iconic design, celebrated for its ergonomic comfort and minimalist aesthetic. Buch frequently collaborated with manufacturers like O.D. Møbler, producing pieces in teak and rosewood that showcased his commitment to quality materials and craftsmanship. His designs, including dining chairs and bar stools, remain highly sought after for their timeless elegance and durability, cementing his legacy as a master of mid-century design. O.D. Møbler, formally known as Oddense Maskinsnedkeri A/S, was a distinguished Danish furniture manufacturer based in Odense, operating primarily during the mid-20th century. Established as a woodworking firm, O.D. Møbler became a key player in the Danish Modern movement, producing high-quality furniture that emphasized craftsmanship and minimalist design. The company collaborated with notable designers like Erik Buch, manufacturing iconic pieces such as the Model 49 dining chair, often marked with labels like “Made in Denmark / O.D. Møbler A-S” and “Danish Furniture Makers Control.” Known for using premium woods like teak and rosewood, O.D. Møbler’s furniture is celebrated for its durability and aesthetic refinement, making their pieces enduring favorites among collectors of Scandinavian design. ---Dimensions--- Width: 24.25 in / 61.6 cm Depth: 20 in / 50.8 cm Height: 31 in / 78.74 cm Seat Height: 17 in / 43.18 cm Arm Height: 25.5 in / 64.77 cm This expansive set of twelve Model 49 dining chairs has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration process and we love the results! The solid teak legs and frames have been painstaking sanded and left un-stained with a protective wax coating. There are no deep scratches, stains or other damage present whatsoever and the natural woodgrains of the unfinished teak is absolutely stunning in natural light. The leather seats and backrests show only the wear of once living animal (ranch brands, scars etc.) but show no other damage from use whatsoever. All cushions feature new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. This incredible set of twelve Model 49's is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use thanks to their recent restoration process. Please view all photos and video for details on this set's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
