Set of Four Cantilevered Chairs Thonet Bauhaus Model ST14 by Hans Luckhardt
About the Item
This hard to find set of 4 Thonet chairs, model ST 14, represents the modernist idea of the Bauhaus in an elegant way. Designed in 1931 for DESTA Berlin, later Thonet, Hans Luckhardt designed this very elegant but not easy to manufacture tubular steel chair. Because of the expensive and complicated production very limited numbers of this model were sold. Thonet produced these chairs for only a short period.
Marked Thonet underneath the chairs.
Hans Luckhardt (1890-1954) was a pioneering German architect and urban planner, renowned for his contributions to the modernist movement. Alongside his brother Wassili, he created innovative designs that embodied the principles of functionalism and efficiency. Luckhardt's work emphasized clean lines, geometric forms, and rational spatial arrangements, reflecting the spirit of the Bauhaus movement. His notable projects include the Gropiusstadt housing estate in Berlin and the Hansa Quarter in Hamburg.
