Set of Four Ole Wanscher 'Rungstedlund' Chairs

About the Item

Ole Wanscher for P. Jeppesen, set of 4 dining chairs, model 'Rungstedlund' PJ 34, in mahogany and red velvet ribcord upholstery, Denmark, 1960s. Marked with PJ silver medallion. These classic dining chairs are designed by the Danish designer Ole Wanscher and feature a slightly reclining back and a curved, horizontal slat that functions both as the backrest and constructional element. The tapered legs bear references to 19th century saber legs giving this set a classic, almost stately elegance. Executed in beautiful dark grained mahogany and still featuring the original seat upholstery. Please note that we advise reupholstery before use. The original velvet ribcord is very nice, with no stains or wear, but the original foam is totally gone. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece contains its value and is ready for the many years to come. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.

His approach focused on craftsmanship, functionality, and a deep appreciation for traditional forms. As a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he influenced generations of designers. Klint's carefully researched furniture designs are based on functionality, proportions adapted to the human body, craftsmanship, and the use of high-quality materials. Notable examples of his work include the Propeller Stool (1927), the Safari Chair and the Deck Chair (both 1933), the Church Chair (1936), and the Circle Bed...
