A Set of Four Charles Hollis Jones lucite Dining Chairs By The Esteemed American Modernist Designer Named "The Godfather Of lucite" Manufactured by Belgo Chrom of Belgium in the 1970s Charles Hollis Jones (born 1945) is an American artist and furniture designer. He is known for his use of acrylic and lucite. Jones was born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1945. He moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 16 and founded Chj Designs. At the time, acrylic and plastic were not commonly used as a Material for upscale furniture and art, but Jones began creating pieces for showrooms, such as Hudson-Rissman. His work was well received. Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball and Johnny Carson were among some of the first to commission Jones to design pieces for their homes. An aging Tennessee Williams commissioned Jones to design a writing chair: The result was the Wisteria chair. The Galeries Lafayette is an upmarket French department store chain, the biggest in Europe. Its flagship store is on Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th arrondissement of Paris but it now operates in a number of other locations in France and other countries. In 2019, Galeries Lafayette recorded earnings of over five billion euros. It is a part of the company Groupe Galeries Lafayette and has been a member of the International Association of department stores since 1960. In 1894, Théophile Bader and his cousin Alphonse Kahn opened a fashion store in a small haberdasher's shop at the corner of rue La Fayette and the Chaussée d'Antin, in Paris. In 1896, their company purchased the entire building at 1 rue La Fayette; in 1905 they acquired the buildings at 38, 40 and 42 boulevard Haussmann and 15 rue de la Chaussée d'Antin. Bader commissioned the architect Georges Chedanne and his pupil Ferdinand Chanut to design the store at the Haussmann location, where a glass and steel dome and Art Nouveau staircases...
