About the Item

These chairs were made in 2012 as prototypes for a new line of furnishings for Valcucine. The chairs proved to be too costly to be produced on a large scale and the design never went into full production. No more than twenty of these chairs were ever made. We were fortunate enough to procure six of these chairs the year they were produced. These chairs have been safely tucked away in our warehouse, they've never been used and are in excellent condition. The "Leonardo" dining chair is constructed of over 100 pieces of maple wood assembled with wooden dowels, without the use of screws or metal parts. They are remarkably sturdy. The chairs are unvarnished and stunning in their natural state, however, to protect wood we would recommended they be clear varnished or painted depending on your specific design needs. Designed by Gabriele Centazzo, these evocative chairs echo the famous drawings in Leonardo da Vinci's codices and his visionary machines. Dematerialization is the hallmark of Centazzo's designs, of which Leonardo chair is a prime example of this principle. Gabriele Centazzo, designer and founder Valcucine, is a visionary of the Italian design community, and has predilection for designing, not for today, but for the future. His goal is to design with the latest technological innovations in mind, always striving for comfort, reinventing ergonomics and shaping a new user experience through the pursuit of cutting-edge solutions. He has always placed an emphasis on the importance of responsible production, actively engaging with communities to source materials responsibly, with the aim of continuous improvement with respect to the environment and people.
