Maison Parvis, Rare Salon Egyptomania, Late 19th Early 20th Century

About the Item

Large Egyptomania lounge of the Parvis house, composed of 2 benches 2 places each and 4 armchairs. Freely inspired by the furniture discovered in the royal tombs or by the representations of the temples and papyrus, this lounge is richly decorated with heads and paws of cat on the armrests and the feet; almost each piece of wood is decorated with a marquetry in bone and wood The backs are surmounted by a frieze of Uraeus (protective cobras), those of the sofas are also decorated with profiles of gods and vultures (symbol of the goddess Nekhbet), attributes of pharaoh. Good general condition, some lacks and wear from use, old restorations, fabrics and seats to be reviewed Work of the quality of the house Parvis, great Italian cabinetmaker, who settled in Cairo in 1859 and he will be inspired by all the elements of architecture and decoration that he can see everywhere in Egypt to create his own style of Arabist furniture He will very quickly furnish the beautiful Egyptian residences, then thanks to his participation in the Universal and international Exhibitions, conquer the European market.
