"Malitte" System by Roberto Sebastian Matta for Gavina, circa 1966

About the Item

The Malitte System, designed by Roberto Sebastian Matta for Gavina, is an icon of Italian design, proven by it's inclusion in the permanent collection of MoMA. The Malitte is a seating system, an ever-changing composition of five polyurethane blocks covered in fabric. A playful collection of colored interlocking organic shapes that can be assembled into a single sculpture, a “wall” dividing the environment with its formal and conceptual being, which, when necessary, can instantly become a complete living room: a two-seat sofa, three seats and a pouf.
