Pair of Elettra Chair in green velvet by BBPR for Arflex

About the Item

The Elettra armchair, designed by B.B.P.R. for Arflex, has a black tubular and poplar plywood frame, shaped polyurethane padding with differentiated density and polyester fiber, springing on elastic belts, and a completely removable fabric or fixed leather cover. B.B.P.R. are Gian Luigi Banfi, Ludovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso, Enrico Peressutti and Ernesto Nathan Rogers, who, after graduating in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, founded a firm in the 1930s that mainly carried out urban planning projects in the wake of Rationalism and the lesson of the master Le Corbusier. During the war Banfi and Belgiojoso will be deported to the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp, from which the former will never return, but the group will never change its name. Among the many public and private buildings designed by the firm, the famous Torre Velasca in Milan stands out (even in height!). In the early 1950s B.B.P.R. designs for Arflex the first series of furniture intended for public spaces such as waiting rooms and offices. This includes the Elettra armchair, which combines in itself the modernity of functionalist-type design and the materials used, such as tubular and foam rubber.
