About the Item
Samson Berman studio, NY, USA, circa 1955. Integrated illuminated tandem chair platform. One of a kind encapsulating the Modernist era fully and unlike anything you have seen before. May free-stand in a room with a complete finished back. 121.5 wide x 41.5 deep (bow shaped) x 32.5 high (not including lamp) - see further details at end of description. Vast end / side table and middle section for object display and arrangement with the center essentially a coffee or cocktail table. The lamp post is produced from one large slab of gunstock ribboned walnut.
Chairs are not as yet bolted to frame and can be positioned anywhere and is shown with two suggested positions. The floor lamp mounts to the frame and has a tightening bolt and can be positioned anywhere along the rim of the platform and does not need to remain on-center.
The edge of this low profile platform is 10" and serves as solid foundation for the chairs and lamps and is produced with a very thick lumber edge of solid walnut. Brass inserts span the table.
The chairs have been reupholstered several times in their life and upholstery for the new home is suggested. Some marks to the lamps and platform. Will be shipped as 4 pieces (2 chairs, the lamp and the platform bench). Various options could include the conversion to a daybed or sofa with a large cushion being made.

Chairs height 32.5", arm height 22" and seat height 17". 31" deep. Lamp 91" from top of 10" table top (can be abbreviated).

Bow tie diablo lamps are original and each of the 4 sockets can take a 75 watt bulb, turned on and off by a push-switch located on the lamp base. Repainted some time ago, some marks present. Full swivel and tilt action with obvious ceiling illumination and perforated punches for alight accent.
