1960s Set of Two Illum Vikkelso Plexus Easy Chairs in Rosewood by CFC Silkeborg The plexus chair series consisting of a lounge chair, sofa, coffee table and sidetable was designed by Illum Wikkelsø in the 1960s and manufactored by CFC Silkeborg in Denmark mainly in oak and mahogany but a limited amount also in rosewood like this chair The plexus chairs feature a well designed combination of gracefull curved and straight lines and not least a well balanced combination of wood and braid and cushions that can easily be reupholstered or replaced according to the enviroment where you wish to use them. The Plexus series is futher more designed to be taken apart making it easy to combine eg. two Plexus chairs to make a sofa, to put them into storage or to ship The chairs have been checked by our cabinetmaker to ensure that they are in very good condition with only minor signs of age and use. The cushions are original cushions in very good condition but we will be happy to make you an offer for recoloring the leather or making new cushions according to your wishes. Kristian Illum Wikkelsø was a Danish furniture designer, who belonged to the generation of Danish designers among them Hans j. Wegner, Finn Juhl, Kai Kristiansen and many others that made Danish Design a world brand during the 1950's and 1960's. He was a carpenter apprentice until 1938 and then was admitted at the Art Works School in Copenhagen, from where he graduated 1941. After years as an employee at first Jacob Kjær and then the partners Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard, he established his own business in 1954. Many of his pieces have become classical designer object, among the widest known are his rocking chair and his easy chair model V11. An important partner was C. F. Christensen, Silkeborg, for whom he designed the PLexus series and other light comfort chairs.
