Barcelona Chairs from Richard Neutra's Lovell Health House, 1940s

About the Item

This pair of custom Barcelona chairs came from the famed Lovell Health House designed by Richard Neutra. The Lovell Health House is considered to be the first steel frame structure in the United States. This pair of chairs lived in the Neutra house from at least around 1960, and were photographed by Julius Shulman at one point. Archival images of the chairs in situ can be provided upon purchase. Both chairs were customized at one point with green naugahyde cushions and steel straps painted with Neutra's signature eucalyptus green. We believe the production of these chairs to be most likely German and dating to before Knoll received the contract to produce Mies van der Rohe's designs. These relics are completely original and show visible wear as seen in the photos, thought they are perfectly usable as is and very comfortable.
