About the Item
Børge Mogensen (Danish 1914-1772)
A pair of iconic “Spanish Chairs” (BM 2226), designed by Børge Mogensen in 1958 and produced by Fredericia Stolefabrik.
Crafted in solid oak with robust saddle leather, tightened with adjustable leather straps.
Both chairs bear the Fredericia Stolefabrik maker’s mark beneath the seat and remain in original condition from the 1970s with a beautiful patina. Natural signs of use are visible, with one chair showing slightly more wear than the other. We have deliberately chosen not to restore or treat the leather in order to preserve their authentic character, though the buyer may of course choose to clean or condition the leather for a more uniform appearance.
Sold only as a pair.
History:
Mogensen found the inspiration for the “Spanish Chair” during a trip to Spain, where he observed the traditional wide leather chairs common in local interiors. He reinterpreted the idea within a modern Scandinavian context, resulting in this masterpiece that unites functionality, honest materials, and sculptural form.
