About the Item

Jordan Mozer (b. 1958), Cantering Lounge Chair, Grey Wool Flannel / Patinated Cast Aluminum , Made in Chicago. 2003/2018. This chair is a 2018 prototypical reinterpretation of the original 2003 Canter’s Lounge Chair. Signed. Provenance: collection of the artist. Measurements: 44” tall x 27.5” wide x 31” deep (112 cm x 70 cm x 79 cm). PROCESS + MATERIALS Made in Chicago. Wood hand carvings were cast in recycled magnesium-aluminum alloy, hand polished, and then patinated by rubbing the castings with elixirs. Upholstered in wool flannel. Etched signature. THE STORY The original Canter’s chair was developed when Jordan Mozer + Associates, Ltd. was asked by Bobby Baldwin to design the second Canter's Restaurant to reposition MGM/Mirage’s TI resort hotel in Las Vegas. The original Canter’s is a legendary midcentury, 24-hour Hollywood hangout. It is frequented by rock stars, actors and directors, writers and their entourages. This chair is an updated variation of the original chair the artist developed for the Las Vegas project. The upholstery has been reworked. SMALL BATCH STUDIO FURNISHINGS Mozer Studios LLC handcrafts all of their small batch products. They are never mass produced. We invite our patrons to embrace the nuanced irregularities of form, surface and finish as evidence of that handwork, defining each piece as one of a kind.
