Carl Malmsten Attributed Tall White Upholstered Swedish Lounge Chairs

About the Item

Dramatic, Mid-Century, Swedish, upholstered lounge chairs attributed to Post-War design luminary Carl Malmsten. These chairs have handsomely tapered legs and a new ivory upholstery. Carl Malmsten was a Swedish furniture designer, architect, and educator who was well-known for his commitment to traditional Swedish craftsmanship and opposition to functionalism. He had an excellent sense of proportion and created furniture that people would feel right at home in. "Neither light, nor eyes or people like bumping into sharp corners", he said. As a result, all edges needed to be smoothed to make them more appealing to the eye and touch. That philosophy is illustrated in these chairs that have frames in original condition with some visible wear on the legs, consistent with age and use.
