"Cubo" Lounge Chairs by Jorge Zalszupin

About the Item

Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020), Brazilian architect and designer, founded the furniture design and manufacturing company L'Atelier in São Paulo, Brazil, in the 1950s. It became a benchmark for modernism. The company was the first in the world to mobilise a wide range of professionals - designers, architects, engineers and craftsmen - in all stages from material research to the final product. His designs are characterised by the combination of different materials, such as metal, wood and marble, and the uniqueness of their forms, which break with conventional furniture concepts. This "Cubo" also has a unique design in which the seat seems to be stuck into a wooden frame. The frame is also covered in fabric, creating a sense of unity in the design. The frame is reupholstered by a bright blue fabric inspired by the Brazilian flag, while the seat is made of a beige suede-like fabric.
