Dolly (Sheep) lounge chair, cast and hand worked burnished recycled aluminum, shearling, Jordan Mozer, Chicago, 2018 Provenance: Collection of the artist. Signed. Measurements; 31 " wide, 33" deep x 37" tall, seat at 18" ( 79 cm wide x 84" deep x 94 cm tall Seat at 46cm ). Materials + methods Made in Chicago. Hand carved sculptures were cast in recycled aluminum-magnesium alloy, hand-worked and then burnished. Shearling uphlostery. Story The Dolly lounge chair was created as part of a Mozer Studios collection that asked the question “What is Paradise?” Mozer’s answer: the harmony of an organic ecosystem, a garden of artforms, a contrast to the cold rigidity of mechanized modern life. The Paradise Collection, crafted for an art collector’s boutique hotel in Seoul, Korea, is made up of idiosyncratic and celebratory handcrafted forms. Alongside Mozer’s anthology of recurring floral forms are anthropomorphized Creature Tables and the Dolly Lounge Chairs, suggestive of the form of a sheep—its upholstery like heavy wool hanging thick on the body just before shearing, the particularity of its exoskeleton hand carved and cast in magnesium-aluminum alloy to express the particular curvature of its limbs.
