About the Item

The “Farfalla” lounge chair is a striking contemporary design piece that combines playful imagination with precise craftsmanship. Its name, Italian for “butterfly,” reflects the sculptural silhouette of the chair, with wings that open outward in bold geometric planes. Upholstered with a printed rug in warm gradient hues of red and orange, the design blends functionality with expressive artistry. The dynamic form rests on a stable wooden base reinforced with steel, creating a perfect balance between lightness and strength. Both furniture and sculptural statement, the chair embodies a dialogue between art and design that is at the heart of Frans Willigers’ creative practice. Only 3 pieces of this chair were ever made. About the designer: Frans Willigers (b. 1956) is a Dutch designer and visual artist whose work explores the boundaries between furniture, sculpture, and architecture. Often working with bold forms and experimental materials, he creates limited-edition pieces that merge practicality with conceptual expression. His designs are collected internationally and appreciated for their distinctive artistic presence.
