Francis Jourdain Lounge Chair in Woven Straw and Wood

About the Item

Francis Jourdain, armchair, straw, stained wood, France, 1925 This exceptional chair is a design by French painter and cabinetmaker Francis Jourdain (1976-1958) and exudes a refined provincial charm, embodying an exquisite elegance of remarkable quality. The type of upholstery and construction, give the chair a character of its own. Traditionally, with these type of rustic chairs, the fiber threads are woven, creating braided ropes that are then arranged alongside or upon each other. This imparts the piece with a visually interesting geometric pattern. The way the frame is built, in a reconstructivistic manner, is typical for French design of the the first half of the twentieth century. Please note that this item is in good, used condition with traces of age and use. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
